I recently stumbled upon an interesting piece of architectural history, the Carnegie Mellon University's College of Fine Arts building designed by Henry Hornbostel in 1905. This beaux-arts structure boasts a stunning marble-laden Great Hall adorned with a curved ceiling mural featuring iconic world landmarks and sculptural representations from different periods. It's incredible to think how such a masterpiece has stood the test of time, but it also caught my attention for a more personal reason - its connection to the movie Wonder Boys! The film was adapted from Michael Chabon's novel, which in itself is an impressive piece of literature celebrating its 30th anniversary this month. The building served as the backdrop for some memorable scenes featuring the Virgin Mary statue, particularly a scene where Grady Tripp faints and wakes up to see his lover, university chancellor Sara Gaskell, replacing the statue. What an unexpected twist of fate! It's fascinating how much history and culture is embedded within these walls and how they continue to shape our collective memory. https://lithub.com/in-prai...
